...starring Ben Kingsley and Ray Winstone. A rarity. A British film that doesn't suck. Fantastic performances from Kingsley and Winstone. Ben Kingsley was a revelation - wholly convincing as a psychotic cockney hardman terrorising one time accomplice Ray Winstone into doing one last job. If there's one thing I hate, it's the glamourisation of gangster-life. Tarantino is fine - cos he's American and I'm not being asked to identify with his heroes and heroines too closely. But I usually have trouble with these Brit-gangster flicks. I won't say too much about the plot cos it'll spoil it for you. But, if you ever find yourself in the video store, wondering whether to take a chance on a small-budget British film or the latest feel good Hollywood blockbuster - this once you would be right to go for a British film that is finally worth your time. The plot isn't particularly original, the action sequences not Tarantino-esque, but the script, the acting, the tension created between a few well drawn characters is very realistic.
Four Stars.

I'm off to watch a documentary about George Michael - not that I find him particularly interesting, but I suspect it might pass the time.... See you later Ivor! or tomorrow....
